The sun has set...

Some weeks ago a very dear friend of mine sadly passed away.

Yesterday, we celebrated a wonderful and generous life spent. It was plain to see that he truly touched the hearts of many many people with his charm, humour and intelligence. A husband of 51 years, father and grand father. A true polymath, educator and wily artist.
And from my perspective, ‘a full and colorful life was crammed into 79 years.’

Robert was my friend for the last 2 decades. We talked, walked and laughed. We shared time, sparred ideas and notions about love, art and beauty... and with a bit of politics and sport thrown in too!  It was always fun, rewarding and insightful.

I knew Robert as an artist and thinker and to witness him working or being in and around his working practice was fun and beguiling. He was demonstrative with his knowledge of art and it workings and this I know was enjoyed by many his devoted students and friends.  In this world of fountains and drains... Robert was in every way a multi faceted fountain. A fountain of affection and a fountain of knowledge.

Robert was my pal... he really was ‘one in million’...
and I miss him.

This is sad news. I knew Robert mostly through his work. I remember liking it the first time I saw it on display at the Alf East. I met him in person when he attended an open studios event of mine and was generous with his thoughts and support. A gentleman artist...I also remember him enjoying the sausage rolls on offer.

The best to you Chris on the loss of a friend.
